The Ibadan Youth Solidarity Movement (IYSM) has sent a clear warning to Michael Lana, the former Attorney General of Oyo State, to stop hindering the wheel of progress in the coronation of the new Olubadan.
The youth group reacting to Thursday’s endorsement of the Otunbadan of Ibadan, Senator Lekan Balogun as the right occupant of the seat of Olubadan following the demise of Oba Saliu Adetunji, the erstwhile Olubadan of Ibadan, said in a statement that “Lana must stop his campaign of calumny now”
The statement signed by Bolaji Olatunji on behalf of the group warned the former AG to “be very careful with his careless utterances.”
The statement comes on the heels of news credited to Lana discrediting the proclamation of the King Makers who had named Senator Lekan Balogun as the new Olubadan.
Lana described the process as comedy stating that unless existing court cases are withdrawn, the selection is null and void . He also stated that the two most important people in the process of selecting the new Olubadan, the Osi Olubadan and Iyalode were not present at the meeting.
The IYSM in it’s reaction said: We have it on good authority that Michael Lana is being used by an outsider and a high chief who doesn’t wish Ibadan well.
We hereby warn Lana that if he continues to play the role of anti Ibadan, we may not have any other option than to deal with ruthlessly him. We advice him that if he has anything against the selection, as a lawyer, he should address it to the court.”
According to the IYSM, the former Attorney General is allowing himself to be used as a pawn.
The kingmakers have spoken and Otunbadan Senator Lekan Balogun is the next Olubadan of Ibadan.
We advise the Oyo State Governor to adopt the resolution of the King Makers and do the right thing.
Lana is simply representing disgruntled elements who do not want peace.
You may wish to ask, what is his interest? If Lana, an otherwise legal luminary is not a coward, he should address a press conference rather than fanning embers of discord within the land. Those who know him should warn him.” The statement adds.
