She finished with a second-class upper degree in her course of study, ahead of students who were not incarcerated like her.
Okike Chinyere was not the only inmate who bagged an MSc degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution, as another male inmate, Alegbe Afolabi, was also awarded the same certificate.
In his vote of thanks, one of the graduating inmates, Nweke Chibueze, eulogised the Controller General, Haliru Nababa, and the Vice-Chancellor of NOUN for the opportunity given to them to study.
He, however, pleaded for clemency for himself and other graduating inmates so they give their quota to the country’s development having bagged university degrees that will make them useful to society. – Advertisement –
While speaking during the presentation of the Bachelor of Science certificate to eight graduands, the state Controller of Correctional Service, Adewale Francis Adebisi, urged them to imbibe the virtues of education.
According to him, incarceration should not stop them from dreaming, telling them to use the “opportunity available while in detention to better their lives so that when they are released, they can contribute positively to the society”.
